Project #1 Synopsis
For my first project, my plan is to shoot myself as a person with Narcissistic personality disorder. I want the pace to feel like an online or home video. I also want the audience to understand a lot of extra information the person. I would like the character to look like they are not a good at capturing video. I plan on doing this by having my character fumble with the camera a bit in the beginning. I also want the audience to get the idea that two cameras are being used as well as styles. In order to do this, I plan on having the camera set up on a tripod for the one on one shots with the camera. The shots that are of the character doing stud having a cameraman not using any stabilization, so the audience know that it is an online/home video rather than a big production film. The plot is with a character that is playing a version of myself that has Narcissistic personality disorder and sucks at sports. This character has an accident when some guys laugh at her throwing ability saying, “she throws like a girl.” The character doesn’t like that people think she can’t play sports. So, she goes out and shoots herself playing different sports. The character is going to suck at every sport and get angry and frustrated. I want all of the sports clips to be raw uncut as to make the scenes more relatable than using cutting and the audience wondering what happened. I feel that if I cut it the audience will feel like, the character is taking the best cuts and being a character for the camera instead of being real. The ending is the part that I am not sure, how I am going to finish it. I know that my character has Narcissistic disorder, but should my audience know that. Should I make the character still believe they are awesome at sports or should this person be emotional. I think I am going to have the character shut down emotionally because it doesn’t make sense. A Narcissistic person wouldn’t admit defeat or show that much emotion. However, my character is a diverse character who doesn’t make sense. I think if I do this scene the audience will have to interpret the last scene, however, they feel. The sounds that I plan on getting is outside ambience. Since, I plan on shooting at the basketball court around my apartment where there is a dog park. I might have to find some dog sounds online. My video will not contain any music only sound to help add to the scene. I have no plans to get too many close-ups. I want the shots where the character is alone in their bedroom to be medium close-ups. All of the other shots should be medium to wide shot since they are outside where the characters are playing sports. If I use close-ups during the scenes where the character is playing sports, then it will feel rehearsed. All sports recorded for tv are shot using wide shots, so I am going to do the same thing. Overall, I think my idea will be manageable to shoot and finish on time for class.
